What we do

We work with nature – nature engages all our senses, can make us feel calmer, spark curiosity and kindle our spirits. We also work for nature by giving nature spaces our care and attention, making them richer for wildlife.

We wish to work with people in our community – children, young people, adults or families – to foster wellbeing and connection. We will put our efforts into providing opportunities for those who need it the most and will seek funding to support those with fewer resources.

We offer nature-based activities that bring about small but positive changes in people’s lives – providing safe and welcoming opportunities for people to learn more about themselves, to build friendships and shared experiences, and to connect to the natural eco-systems that sustain and inspire us.  We are inspired and underpinned by the forest school approach that is learner-centred, long term and fosters curiosity, confidence, self-esteem, resilience and inclusion. Our expertise is in providing longer term programmes, though we may also host one-off events.

We can:

🌿Bring people to the field

🌿Take Thriving Wild to people

🌿Develop projects with you

We are a small and local team.  We want to grow slowly and sustainably and in ways that respond to the needs of our community.  This could include:

🌿Long-term forest school programme for neurodiverse children

🌿Long term programme for older teens or young adults

🌿On-going adult wellbeing group

🌿Sessions in support of our local community groups and organisations

🌿Periodic family sessions

🌿One-off events that bring people together for community building and fun

What activities might we do?

There’s a huge scope of nature-based activities that children and adults can enjoy in ways that interest and inspire them: building dens, climbing trees, cooking on the campfire, using tools, whittling, green wood-working, exploring nature and habitats, caring for the land, making art, learning new crafts, permaculture gardening, mindfulness, games, singing, story-telling, relaxing, swinging, and play – lots of play! Sometimes, what counts the most is simply having the space to be.

What projects do we currently have?

Alongside our long established home education group,  we currently run family days for local community groups at the Field.  We also head out into our community to run workshops.

Hedgerow baskets and woodland jewellery making workshops with Bridport Community Shed's monthly young person's project for 11 to 18 year olds.

Family activity day with Bridport based charity ASCape, a charity dedicated to improving the lives of Autistic children and young people in West Dorset
