Ticks are becoming much more common in the UK and are found across Dorset. They can carry Lyme disease which is transferrable to humans, and we are all being encouraged to become tick aware!
Don’t let ticks put you off getting out into nature. Here is a great website with lots of easy to digest information on ticks, Lyme Disease and how to stay safe. Lyme Disease UK - Lyme disease charity for patient support and advice
Staying safe with us:
🌿Spray ankles and wrists with tick spray. We will have some spare tick spray for you to apply when you arrive.
🌿Carry out a tick check after your time with us! It’s good to get into a regular habit of tick checks after spending time outdoors. When doing a tick check, pay special attention to the following areas where ticks like to hide: - behind your ears, your scalp and hair, around the neck, under your arms, inside the belly button, between the legs, around the waist.
🌿If you find a tick, remove it as soon as possible using a tick remover. It’s good to have a tick remover at home at the ready. You can buy tick removing tools from our local pharmacies, or even from us on the day (whilst our stocks last).
🌿It can also help to wear long trousers tucked into socks and a long-sleeved to on the day. However, you or your child may not feel comfortable that way, or it may be too hot! So, it’s: tick spray before and tick check after☺️
We have plenty of spare drinking water on site, compost loo, and hand washing facilities. Siobhan has made a video to show how we use our friendly compost loo☺️ Compost Loo at Thriving Wild.
Needing a cosy space? Our covered spaces are great to shelter from the sun or rain, or just to hang out.
Forgotten your rain coat or need another pair of warm socks? We have spares of wellies, coats and warm layers that we can lend you ☺️
